Getting Started

Download the program and install it according to the instructions
on the
Download Page.

Don't be afraid to experiment and try different things. There's lots
you can do to customize the behaviour of FeederReader. And if
you have any questions, you can ask on the
message board or
you can read
the manual.

Add a Feed

Probably the first thing you want to do after installation is add a
feed. To do this, tap the Tools | Add RSS Feed menu item. This
will open the URL Box at the top of the screen.

Clear the URL Box with the Tap-And-Hold menu on the box itself,
select Clear.

Type in the URL of the feed. This will be something like
"http://feeds.feedburner.com/PocketcastingcomPodcastingDirectory"
(without the quotes).

Tap the RSS button. This will add the Feed to the bottom of the
list in the List View. That's it!

Update Feeds

The easiest way to update your feeds is to tap the All | Update.
This will add all feeds to  the Update Queue and begin Updating.
This will even dial a connection through the built-in Connection
Manager. The Update will happen in the background and you can
read messages while downloading. New messages will
automatically appear in the List View and the down arrow will
automatically jump to the new messages as they are added.

You can download one a group of feeds by through the
Tap-And-Hold menu items. To see this menu, go to the List View
and tap on a node. Then Tap-And-Hold that node and the menu
will pop up. Tap Update RSS.

The number of feeds is shown on the status bar. You should see
it slowly reduce to zero as feeds are updated. If you tap the status
bar, the Detailed Status Box will be displayed. Tap the Status Bar
again to hide the details.

Organize Feeds

You can create a category to place several similar feeds into. To
do this, select Tools | New | Category. Then type in the name of
the category and tap the Cat button.

Next, tap the Tools | Manage RSS Feeds menu item. Then tap the
check boxes of all the feeds you want to move into the new
category. Once all of the feeds are checked, select (highlight) the
category. Tap-and-Hold to get the pop up menu and select Move
To | In.

Reading Messages

To read messages, tap the "down arrow" button on the tool bar.
This will take you to the next
unread message. Note that after 3 seconds, the node you are
reading will change from Read to
Unread status. Just keep pressing the down arrow to read the
next message.

Deleting Messages

When the message reaches a certain age after being
downloaded, it will automatically Expire. Then delete all Expired
messages by tapping All | Delete | Expired.

Explore!

There are lots of options to explore. The first time you open the
Tools | Options... it will take about 10 seconds to appear. The next
time you open it, it will be very quick. Here are a few options you
may want to check out:

Display Tab: Change the size of the text and whether you can see
message and feed details.

Update Tab: Change what happens during feed updates.

Expire Tab: Change how long it takes for messages to expire.

Enclosure Tab: Change how and when enclosures/podcasts are
downloaded.

You can change what the down arrow and up arrow do. Select the
Change Arrow item, then select the function you want for the
arrow.

And more!

Once you get the hang of feeds, there's more to discover.
Support for podcasts, display full screen, getting statistics.

Have fun, ask questions on the message board if you need help.
Read the manual for even more detail. I'll be there.
